One-third of New Jersey counties do not have an abortion provider.
We are a leader in the reproductive health, rights and access movement in New Jersey and have campaigned against anti-abortion centers (aka crisis pregnancy centers), advocated for more comprehensive sexual and reproductive health education, and fought to expand access to reproductive healthcare, including abortion.
In January 2022, before the Dobbs decision, New Jersey passed the Freedom of Reproductive Choice Act which codified the constitutional right, recognized by the NJ Supreme Court, to freedom of reproductive choice, including the right to access contraception, to terminate a pregnancy, and to carry a pregnancy to term. After Dobbs, new laws were enacted prohibiting extradition of individuals from another state back to that state for actions related to reproductive healthcare services lawful in NJ, and protecting non-disclosure of certain patient reproductive healthcare information and protecting access to abortion services and procedures for out-of-state persons.
Our efforts are based on a reproductive justice framework, and there is much more to be done to ensure reproductive freedom for all.
After Abortion Care Kits
To show all clients who undergo abortions in our state support and give them needed supplies, NCJW/Essex, in consultation with trusted providers, began an initiative to prepare After Abortion Care Kits to be distributed to abortion seekers by providers. To date, we have donated more than 1,000 Kits to providers and are committed to expanding both our donor and trusted provider base.
Rabbis for Repro
With over 2,000 clergy and counting, Rabbis 4 Repro encourages clergy and Jewish educators to use their voices to teach, write, and speak out about reproductive rights and Judaism in the United States and
in the Jewish
community.

Here are some ways you can make your voice heard!
New Jersey has signed into law the Freedom of Reproductive Choice Act, S49/A6260, which codifies in statue the rights to abortion and reproductive healthcare and, along with the recent changes in regulations promulgated by the Board of Medical Examiners, expands access to reproductive healthcare. In addition, the Legislature signed into law Bill S413/A6260, which expanded contraception prescriptions to be filled to 12 months at a time. These bills are an excellent first step in our efforts to ensure that everyone in our State is able to access the full spectrum of reproductive healthcare including abortion care. The original bill, the Reproductive Freedom Act, included provisions which would have provided for equity and access such as required abortion and contraception with no co-pays. Rights without access are meaningless and we must continue our efforts to ensure that no community is left behind.

Whatever the outcome, the Texas medication abortion case will have an impact even in New Jersey where abortion is legal.
While New Jersey has codified reproductive rights, barriers still remain for too many in our state to accessing time-sensitive reproductive healthcare and both medication and surgical abortion care.
Everyone should be able to access care regardless of income, ZIP code or immigration status.
We call on you to push for bold solutions that address the realities of providing and receiving abortion care and make New Jersey a model by rejecting abortion stigma and inflammatory rhetoric and fighting for better abortion access. Break down the cost barriers to care, eliminate insurance co-pays, support providers and ensure all individuals in our State can get the care they need when they need it. Thank you.

Jewish Fund for Abortion Access in partnership with the National Abortion Federation (NAF), a national organization that represents, serves and supports abortion providers in delivering patient-centered, evidence-based care.
The fund, through NCJW, will help with their emergency relief efforts in three ways: 1) funding the largest hotline in the country which will help individuals learn what they need to access abortion based on where they live. After reaching out to the hotline, the person calling is assigned a case manager who will help them through their journey; 2) funding travel over state lines for those who need it; and funding abortions at NAF-approved clinics for those who need it.
